Heimat – Jerusalem a holy place

Homeland

Jerusalem is home to the three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity; and receives from them both its greatest gifts and its most intractable challenges. The plant -like shape of its map and its layers that have experienced continual transformation, mesmerized the artist for years. Susanne Kessler repetitively traces its lines in various techniques, in drawings and installations, and finally, 2017, in three delicate embroideries with the title “homeland”.
