The White Line

A 103-metre-long white line winds through part of the sculpture park – a ribbon that ends or begins in Lake Bolsena. It is a temporary site-specific installation in the truest sense of the word.
White, a symbol of purity, clarity and peace, in many cultures stands for a new beginning, a blank page — but in Asia, it also signifies mourning. This ribbon seeks to unite these diverse meanings: the hope for peace, the desire for change, a sign against violence towards women and all living beings, a sign of protest.
This part of the park is conceptually linked to the nearby English military cemetery and to the mostly unnamed lives resting there for over 900 months — it connects these victims of the past with those who still die every day in this world on fire.
It is not a static object: it is a living sign in the landscape, growing out of the experience of the place and encouraging us to clearly see  what has been, what is happening and what may yet come.
